"Who establish prayer and give zakah, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith]." [Surah An-Naml, Aya 3]

Zakat in action

Your Zakat is an act of care that provides a lifeline for Palestine refugees.

Today, more than two million Palestinian refugees live in poverty and 2.2 million rely on cash and food assistance from UNRWA to meet their most basic needs.

In 2018, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) launched a Zakat program with the objective to collect donations according to Islamic finance, as UNRWA serves a large segment of those legally eligible for Zakat according to the Islamic Shari'a.

In this regard, UNRWA obtained a Fatwa from Sheikh Al-Azhar and the Imam of Al-Aqsa Grand Mosque supporting the eligibility of Palestine refugees for the Zakat fund, as well as, for UNRWA programmes such as health, education, and food and cash assistance programme. The National Zakat Foundation Worldwide also certified the Agency's food and cash assistance program in Gaza as Zakat eligible.

UNRWA is the only agency mandated to protect the rights and dignity of Palestine refugees, many of whom rely on UNRWA to meet their most basic needs.
