While Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip face immense challenges due to the Israeli blockade as well as the deteriorating socio-economic context, the situation is even more difficult for persons with disabilities, particularly children.
This is what makes the Rehabilitation Centre of the Visually Impaired in Gaza so special. The only centre of its kind in Gaza, it offers education and recreational activities to more than 500 visually impaired children. Children at the school are taught life skills and how to successfully navigate the world around them.
Your Gift of Love can help students with disabilities access quality education and ensure that they are instilled a love of learning. Their success is our success.
“It’s not easy to be a blind child. I want to learn, play, dream and enjoy my life equally like all children across the world," says Mohammed, age 7. Mohammed, who was born blind, is a student at UNRWA Rehabilitation Centre for the Visually Impaired in Gaza. "My favorite part of the day is when I run in the school yard with my friend, Hamed. It makes me feel free."
Like many children, Mohammed enjoys drawing and music classes. The Centre is also helping Mohammed with his gross motor skills, supporting him to walk without feeling afraid to fall or hit something. “I love my school, it’s where I feel safe and loved, it’s my second home."
Your Gift of Love can help students with disabilities, like Mohammed, access quality education and ensure that they are instilled a love of learning.
